FD30 and FD60 Fire Doors

Fire doors are rated by the amount of minutes protection it gives against a fire.

Wignall's certified integrity levels are: FD30 and FD60, this means that the FD30 doorset will give at least 30 minutes protection and likewise FD60 will give protection for 60 minutes.

Quality Management

Certification requires audits every six months of the entire process of the fire doors through the factory. From ordering materials to machining, training, assembly and finally packaging and delivery,

Ensuring traceability throughout the supply chain, and giving assurance that the door will perform as designed in the event of a fire.

How is a fire door tested?

A sample of the door / doorset is tested in a test furnace.

This includes all components.

Certification is only achieved if the door takes longer than the required protection time (30/60 mins) before failing.

When processing in the factory the same blanks and hardware must be used.

What is a Fire Doorset?

A doorset is a complete unit consisting of a door frame and a door leaf or leaves, fitted with all essential components including intumescent seals, ironmongery and glazing.

These components can only be used if they were tested together

All materials are processed in a factory under a set of stringent procedures within the BWF certifire scheme.

BWF fire ratings for fire door assemblies are stated in minutes and prefixed by the letters.

FD30 refers to a 30-minute fire door or fire doorset; in other words, one that offers at least 30 minutes of protection against fires.

Likewise FD60 will give protection for 60 minutes.
